I work with cold formed steel and geodesic
dome design. Cold formed steel is insect proof and
won't rot from moisture. It is inexpensive and while light weight for
shipping, the material is exceptionally strong.
I developed a uniform hub system for 3 frequency geodesic
dome construction. The hubs are fabricated with CNC
technology and made from 12 gage steel This is the easiest
way this page can help someone wishing to construct a steel dome.

.
The connectors will run from $9.00 - $11.00 each steel prices change
daily). Every strut is bolted on the inside AND outside edges of the
strut (WOW, way stronger...). There are three types of hubs and each
vertice has two hubs, You bolt them into pre
cut and drilled steel struts. The struts you
see below were done by hand with a jig. I
am working on a hard copy of specs for the struts.
We are
not a large manufacturer nor would we wish to be. I do this because I
love it!
We
harvest and
distll organic wild foral
essences .
We also have a pine nut season, mid -
September through Thanksgiving. During these
seasons, April through November, I cannot do strut
fabrication. Although, I could have hubs manufactured.

Hub sets have a lead time of about 2 or 3
weeks. The spec sheets for cutting the steel would be
needed.
The strut material for our 38ft 3v home are 12 and 16 gage
2x6 structural steel studs. I've optimized strut length to work with
4x8 plywood sheets.
Of course, the connectors could be used with wood,
but I haven't tried that.
